Introduction.

Emotive Cars is honoured to photograph and list this Herrod Performance DJR for Team Hutchinson Ford in Christchurch.

It’s been 40 years since Dick Johnson won the Bathurst 1000 and established the team that is now the oldest and most popular in Supercars racing.

To mark the anniversary, Johnson has joined forces with legendary Ford tuner Rob Herrod to create a unique rolling celebration machine.

The heart of the car is a supercharged 5.0-litre Coyote V8 engine with a rampaging 578 kiloWatts of power and 810 Newton-metres of torque.

“I cannot believe it’s been 40 years and I cannot believe we’ve got such a great car to celebrate,” said Dick Johnson.

This is build number 29 of 100 and only 1 of 4 in New Zealand.

Engine.

Up front the DJR is fitted with a 5038cc V8.

Thanks to a 3.0L Whipple Supercharger being fitted this DJR Mustang produces 775HP / 578KW with 610 FT LBs of torque (810NM) @ 7500 (Running on Shell V-Power 98 pump fuel).
One of the defining characteristics of the DJR is the irresistible whine coming from the Whipple supercharger. As speed and revs increase, so does the intensity of the whine, creating a symphony that captivates the senses and adds even more drama to this monster.

Additional cooling measures have been implemented for both the engine and transmission in order to maintain optimal temperature levels, while a freshly designed exhaust system, aligned with Herrod's specifications, provides the DJR 40th with an appropriately menacing soundtrack.

Exterior.

The Mustang proudly displays DJR body decals on the bonnet and sides, complete with DJR special edition badging.

A unique rear race-inspired spoiler enhances its aerodynamic profile, while front bumper wind splitters and a lower splitter contribute to its aggressive stance.

Bonnet vents further accentuate its muscular appearance. The car's aesthetics are completed by a complete gloss black bespoke lower grille with a blacked-out pony in the upper grille, as well as a distinctive DJR front guard badge and DJR badging on the boot lid.

This car exudes a captivating blend of performance, style, and individuality.

The gorgeous 10 spoke alloys come wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The fronts measure 20x9.5 and are fitted with 275/35/20 tires, while the rears come in at 20x11 and are equipped with 305/30 tires.

Interior.

Moving to the interior, the DJR offers a truly bespoke experience. The seats are crafted from luxurious Italian leather, specifically designed for the DJR model. The front seats feature heating and cooling functions, ensuring optimum comfort in any condition. The rear seating is also meticulously upholstered with the white stitching to match the front seats, adding to the premium feel throughout the interior.

Adding to the exclusive interior is a unique bespoke Herrod flat-bottom steering wheel which has the Herrod name embossed along the bottom edge. The steering wheel is wrapped in alcantara, the combination of the design and feel providing a sporty and ergonomic grip, perfect for spirited driving.
